Tube Inspection
Small diameter tubing, in various sizes and material specifications,
is used extensively across industry to transfer heat, process
chemicals and dispense product.
In addition to safety, tube condition has a direct bearing
on plant availability, efficiency, productivity and viability.
Assurance of condition is therefore of paramount importance.
Given the variety of functions, operating conditions, tube
sizes and materials involved, and the equally diverse range
of defects which can occur, it goes without saying that there
is no single inspection technique capable of addressing every
circumstance.
That's why we offer a full range of techniques - each of
which, based upon its particular strengths and weaknesses,
has a potential role to play.
The
range of techniques we can deliver include -
- Remote visual - using enhanced video technology
- Acoustic - for blockage detection
- Magnetic Flux Leakage
- Low Frequency Eddy Current
- Remote Field Eddy Current
- IRIS - rotating head immersion ultrasonic
- SLOFEC - in conjunction with associates
Only with this extensive kit of tools are we able to cover
all eventualities - irrespective of the type of material,
whether the metal loss is internal or external or nature and
extent of the corrosion.
However, it must be recognised that the effectiveness of
all of these techniques is largely dependent upon the conditions
under which they are applied and inadequate preparation will
hamper inspection.
This is even more significant given that all the available
tube inspection techniques are 'invasive' by nature and their
use is usually prescribed for 'shut down' and 'outage' situations
- where time is of the essence and delays are costly.
That's why we strongly advocate our involvement at the planning
stage and why we make every effort to ensure that the techniques
we apply have the best possible chance of giving our clients
the information they need to effectively manage their assets.
