Technique Development
Every inspection we do undertake is only as good as the methodology
behind it.
Techniques and procedures are therefore a key element in
this equation.
The approach we use is designed to ensure that all test parameters
are optimized to generate the best possible results in terms
of probability of detection, quality of information and accuracy
of assessment.
For routine applications, the approach is prescribed by the
applicable code, standard or test procedure - but these are
aimed to give adequate and consistent (rather than optimal)
results and a lot of the work cannot be adequately covered
using established practice.
For instance, in the aerospace sector, although general testing
and reporting requirements are covered by the applicable standards,
each component is different and a part specific technique
has to be developed and proven to be effective.
In the nuclear industry, where the work we do is centered
on the development of new techniques to address complex problems,
this process often entails extensive independent validation
of procedure, equipment and personnel before any inspection
takes place.
