Very High Quality Examination from NDT Inspection & Testing
NDT Inspection & Testing have recently carried out an
inspection of reinforcing weld sections at the top of 200m
high telecommunications masts. The project, which required
inspectors with a head for heights, involved the examination
of four masts and was carried out over a four day period.
Very high radio masts are stabilised by a system of guide
stays. These high tensile cables connect to the masts at points
on the mast structure which feature a reinforcing weld. To
ensure the stability of the masts it is important that the
integrity of these welds is proven at regular intervals. In
order to carry out this demanding, high level examination,
NDT Inspection & Testing used rope access techniques first
of all to remove the paint system of the weld and then to
check for any surface cracking using dye penetrant inspection.
NDT Inspecting & Testing is one of the UK's largest dedicated
inspection service providers and believes in working closely
with customers to understand and address their needs in a
reliable, quality-compliant and cost efficient fashion by
using the most appropriate technology to best effect. Its
field services division offers a wide range of conventional
inspection technology, including site radiography, supported
by specialist techniques such as TOFD, remote field eddy current
inspection, remote visual tube inspection and IRIS ultrasonic
testing. The company also provides dedicated and qualified
radiographic testing services to the aerospace sector and
carries both Nadcap and UKAS accreditation at each of its
three strategically located sites in the UK.
