Material Degradation

Problem

• Material structural damage is arguably the most attritious form of corrosion
• Such damage is usually attributable to chemical attack of the material inter granular structure - often initiated or assisted by the effects of stress and temperature
• The phenomena is difficult to detect because the damage is microscopic and no visible degradation occurs
• Conventional wall thickness measurement methods are therefore ineffective

Solution

More sensitive inspection methods & very high resolution scanning and image processing techniques are needed to resolve & differentiate these micro-structural changes.
